Herbal Gingerade: Better than Any “Sports Drink”

When I was sick last month, gingerade was one of the best home remedies to support and hydrate my body as it fought the illness. Packed with vitamins and minerals, herbal gingerade is a delicious drink that nourishes and hydrates much better than water. I would highly recommend taking it as a regular hydration supplement in addition to when you are feeling under the weather.

Because mineral-rich, vitamin-packed whole foods are the star of this drink, It is important to source fresh, organic ingredients for your gingerade. Now let’s talk a little bit about what makes gingerade so special:

Water

Freshly filtered water is the most important ingredient to any drink. Why not tap water? Think about it this way: if you’re making an effort to add nourishing ingredients like ginger and lemon to your body, why would you want to add chlorine, glyphosate, or heavy metals which are often found in tap water? Using a filter that removes as many contaminants as possible from tap water (without removing the good minerals) is essential. We’ve been using British Berkefeld ceramic filters and absolutely love them.

Ginger

The MVP of this delicious drink is fresh ginger which is known to reduce inflammation and nausea and is also an excellent warming decongestant herb used to treat colds and flus.

Lemon

Lemons are very high in antioxidants, vitamin C, and electrolytes, making them the perfect addition to any hydrating beverage. I also love the flavor of lemon, which is very comforting when I’m sick.

Raw Honey

Honey is often used as an antimicrobial, anti inflammatory, and antibacterial agent for treating illness. It can help soothe a sore throat, cough, and congestion making it the perfect way to sweeten a warm, nourishing beverage.

Mineral Salt

A good natural mineral salt will add essential minerals and electrolytes to any food or drink! Just a pinch of this salt will make for a potently hydrating gingerade.
