An adrenal cocktail is a nourishing drink that will quickly rehydrate and energize you as well as keep your body and mind focused and nourished. As you know when our bodies are fueled properly, we’re the best versions of ourselves. This creative and delicious drink is the perfect way to support your body as you go about a busy day working, training, socializing, and trying not to stress too much.
Instead of reaching for an afternoon coffee, I have started making adrenal cocktails! The magic (and by magic, I mean science) of this drink is that it replenishes your depleted minerals, hydrates, and fuels you in one glass. Sometimes I find myself dragging for no other reason than that I’m dehydrated and undernourished. No, this drink will not be a cure-all if you’ve been up all night with an infant or if you’re sick, but it will help. There are no negative side effects to properly fueling your body, so what are you waiting for?

Benefits of drinking an adrenal cocktail
The stress we undergo as modern humans is very detrimental to our health and wellness. When you’re stressed, the body produces cortisol which “significantly impacts nutrient concentrations”. Of course we should all try to reduce stress, but let’s face it, stress happens no matter what. Consuming an adrenal cocktail, which is packed with vitamins, minerals, potassium, and protein, will quickly bring your body out of that fight or flight response so that you can handle stress better.
Ingredients
The balance of the categories below is essential for an effective adrenal cocktail. There are many different recipes, but you can use what you have on hand and taste until it’s just right!
Vitamin C
A good source of vitamin C is the backbone of your adrenal cocktail. This is what will replenish and energize you. I usually use whatever I have on hand, but orange juice is my favorite source by far.
¼-½ cup
- Orange juice
- Apple juice
- Lemon or lime juice (squeeze half)
- Tart Cherry juice
- Pineapple juice
- Mango juice
- Guava juice
- Strawberry juice
- Kiwi juice
Sodium
Sodium from a well sourced mineral salt will bring electrolytes and minerals to your adrenal cocktail. It also helps to balance the sweetness of the fruit juice.
- A pinch of good mineral salt (sea salt or himalayan salt)
Protein/fat
The protein and fat in this drink work hard to prevent a blood sugar spike from the fruit juice, making it balanced and delicious. Additionally, these ingredients keep you full and satisfied for longer.
A few tablespoons
- Collagen powder
- Coconut milk
- Raw or organic cream
- Coconut cream
Potassium
Potassium helps your body balance fluids, control blood pressure, and muscles contract and relax. This electrolyte also supports adrenal gland function and cardiovascular health.
1 cup
- Coconut water
- Aloe vera juice
- Tomato juice
- Prune juice
- Cream of tartar (1 tsp)

How to make an adrenal cocktail
I like to throw all the ingredients in a tall wide-mouth mason jar and use my electric whisk to break up clumps. Then I taste and add more of whatever I think it needs.
If you don’t have an electric whisk, you can hand whisk your powders with a small amount of the juice until smooth, then add the remaining ingredients and stir to combine.
You can also throw everything in a jar and vigorously shake it with a tight sealing lid until well combined.
